Learn how PokeHiLo's games, rewards and progression systems work. Choose any category below to expand it and read more.

Gamemode #1: Higher or Lower

Higher or Lower is PokeHiLo's first gamemode. Compare Pokémon facts and build the longest streak you can.

  • Goal: each round asks whether the next Pokémon has a higher or lower value than the current one. Follow the direction shown in the question.
  • Correct answer: add one point to your streak, reveal both values, and face a new challenger. The winning Pokémon stays.
  • End of a run: one wrong answer or an expired timer ends your streak. A completed run is saved for registered trainers; leaving early discards the unfinished streak. A same-tab refresh lets you resume, but closing the tab discards the unfinished run.

Difficulty waves

More comparison categories unlock as your streak grows. Categories from earlier rounds stay available.

  • Rounds 1–5 · 30 seconds: National Pokédex number, generation introduced, height, weight and base stat total.
  • Rounds 6–15 · 20 seconds: adds the six base stats and next evolution level.
  • Rounds 16–30 · 15 seconds: adds type weaknesses, type resistances, base catch rate and base experience yield.
  • Round 31+ · 10 seconds: adds base friendship, level-up move count and TM/machine move count.

How values are compared

  • No ties: equal values are not paired for a question.
  • Evolution questions: only fixed, unambiguous level-only evolutions are used.
  • Moves and typing: move counts use unique imported moves. Weaknesses and resistances use the default form's combined defensive typing; immunities count as resistances.
Gamemode #2: Trivia

Trivia is PokeHiLo's second gamemode. Test your Pokémon knowledge across the games, anime, Trading Card Game, Pokémon GO, spin-offs, Pokédex lore and more.

  • Goal: pick the correct answer from four options. Each correct answer adds one point to your streak.
  • Time limit: every new question gives you 60 seconds. One wrong answer or an expired timer ends your streak.
  • Question selection: the first 15 questions focus on more approachable facts. After that, questions from the full enabled pool can appear.
  • End of a run: one wrong answer or an expired timer ends your streak. A completed run is saved for registered trainers; leaving early discards the unfinished streak. A same-tab refresh lets you resume, but closing the tab discards the unfinished run.

Lifelines

Start each run with one 50:50. Use lifelines when you need a little help:

  • 50:50: removes two incorrect choices.
  • Switch Question: replaces the current question and starts a fresh 60-second timer without increasing your streak.
  • Time Freeze: stops the timer for the current question until you answer.
  • Earning more: every five correct answers awards a lifeline. The order is Switch Question, Time Freeze, 50:50, then repeat.
  • Limits: hold up to two of each type and use each type at most once per question. If the next type is full, another available type is awarded. If all are full, no new lifeline is granted until you use one and reach another milestone.
Leaderboards

Compare your best results with other trainers. Higher or Lower, Trivia and Trainer Progression have separate leaderboards.

Game leaderboards

  • Higher or Lower: ranks trainers by their best completed Higher or Lower streak.
  • Trivia: ranks trainers by their best completed Trivia streak. Trivia scores do not affect Higher or Lower rankings.
  • All-Time: your best completed streak in the selected game.
  • Daily & Weekly: your best completed streak in that game during the current daily or weekly period.
  • Who appears: only completed, non-voided runs from registered trainers count. Guest games and unfinished runs are not ranked.
  • Ties: the trainer who achieved the tied score first ranks higher.
  • Top-three rewards: each game's Daily top three receive a Mini Companion Egg with Uncommon-or-higher odds; Weekly top three receive one with Rare-or-higher odds when the period ends.

Progression leaderboards

  • Achievements: compare trainers by their achievement progress.
  • Level: compare registered trainers by their long-term Trainer Level progression.
Dailies

Dailies brings together daily rewards and puzzles. Each activity has its own reset and rules on its page.

  • Daily Streak: claim one reward per day in a 14-day cycle. Missing a day resets your streak.
  • Daily Chest: meet the daily requirement to open a chest and receive a cosmetic reward.
  • Daily Sort: arrange Pokémon in the order requested.
  • Daily Balance: choose the stats that correctly balance the puzzle.
  • Daily Lock: use all the clues to put four Pokémon in the only valid order.
  • Daily Chain: fill in the missing Pokémon between the given start and finish to complete a valid chain.
Mini Companions

Mini Companions are collectible Pokémon linked to your registered trainer account. Hatch Eggs, train Minis and build your collection.

  • Get Eggs: use Mini Companion machines or earn Eggs from selected site rewards.
  • Rarities: Eggs can hatch Common, Uncommon, Rare or Legendary Pokémon, sometimes Shiny.
  • Equip one: equip one Egg or Mini at a time to earn XP. Your equipped Pokémon can also appear beside your trainer on public pages.
  • Earn XP: an equipped Mini gains XP from correct answers and finished streaks in Higher or Lower and Trivia, opening the Daily Chest, claiming Daily Streak and completing Daily Sort, Balance, Lock and Chain. Minis on Expeditions receive XP when you claim their completed trip.
  • Grow it: hatch Eggs, level up Minis and evolve them once their requirements are met.
  • Your collection: the Collection keeps every Egg and hatched Mini you own in one place. Open a hatched Mini to view its details, nickname it, favorite it, equip it, evolve it when ready, or open its Diary.
  • Mini Diary & Ribbons: the Diary records a Mini's Original Trainer and important milestones. Ribbons mark special accomplishments for that individual Mini.
  • Mini Pokédex: tracks discovered Pokémon, with Normal and Shiny discoveries counted separately.

Expeditions

Send the required number of qualifying Minis on an expedition, then claim its rewards when they return.

  • Easy: requires 1 Mini at Lv. 10+, Common or higher rarity, matching any of 3 listed types.
  • Medium: requires 2 Minis at Lv. 30+, Uncommon or higher rarity, each matching any of 2 listed types.
  • Hard: requires 3 Minis at Lv. 60+, Rare or higher rarity, each matching the listed type.
  • Daily offers: expedition types change each day. Requirements do not adapt to your collection, so you may need to train or collect suitable Minis first.
  • Claiming rewards: claim Cosmetic Points and XP for each participating Mini after the expedition completes. If the previous expedition is still running, its replacement waits.

Trading

Registered trainers can trade hatched Mini Companions with each other.

  • Create a listing: offer an available hatched Mini. You can have up to 4 listings at once, each lasting 24 hours unless completed or cancelled earlier.
  • Choose requests: request 1–3 different Minis and optionally specify Normal/Shiny or level requirements.
  • Instant trade: a Mini matching a requested Pokémon can trade immediately.
  • Other offers: you can review, accept or decline alternative offers. The sender can withdraw an offer while it is still pending.
  • Reserved Minis: listed Minis and Minis in pending offers cannot be used elsewhere until the reservation is released. Unequip or unfavorite a Mini before listing it.
  • Keep their history: traded Minis retain their name, level, XP, Shiny state, Original Trainer and Diary records.
Clubs

Trainer Clubs let you team up with other trainers, complete shared challenges, earn Club XP, and climb the Club Rankings.

  • Joining & Creating: Join an existing Club or create your own once you reach Trainer Level 20. Each Club can have up to 5 members, including a Leader and an Officer.
  • Club XP & Levels: Whenever you earn Trainer XP through regular gameplay, your Club earns the same amount of XP. Completing Club Quests awards additional Club XP. Level up your Club to unlock new customisations.
  • Daily & Weekly Quests: Every Club receives 3 Daily Quests and 3 Weekly Quests. These challenges are shared between members, and everyone's contributions count toward the same goal.
  • Minimum Participation: Each quest requires contributions from a minimum number of different Club members. Easy quests require 2 members, Medium quests require 3, and Hard quests require 4.
  • Quest Rewards: Complete all three Daily Quests or all three Weekly Quests to unlock rewards.
  • Club Customisation: Personalise your Club's emblem using different badges, frames, and colour themes. More customisation options unlock as your Club levels up.
  • Club Rankings: Compete against other Clubs and see how your team progresses through the Club Rankings.
Cosmetic Points

Cosmetic Points are PokeHiLo's currency. Earn them from selected activities and spend them on customisation or Mini Companion Eggs.

  • Earn them: through selected rewards, including Daily puzzles, Daily Streak and Mini Companion Expeditions.
  • Spend them: unlock eligible profile cosmetics or use Mini Companion Egg machines.
  • Exclusive rewards: some cosmetics are earned only through certain activities and cannot be purchased.
Personalisation

Personalisation changes how your registered trainer account looks to you and other players.

  • Where: open Profile → Personalisation.
  • What you can change: profile picture, name colour, profile frame and profile background.
  • Unlocking cosmetics: earn them from site rewards or purchase eligible items with Cosmetic Points.
  • Equipping: choose your unlocked look and save it. Your choices appear on your Trainer Profile and other public trainer displays.
Trainer Progression

Trainer Levels and Trainer Titles recognise your progress and accomplishments throughout PokeHiLo.

  • Trainer Level: grows naturally as you play and progress around the site. Games, Dailies, achievements, collections, Mini Companions and Expeditions can all contribute.
  • Game XP: correct answers in Higher or Lower and Trivia grant Trainer XP immediately. A streak finish bonus is earned when a wrong answer or timeout ends a run; leaving early keeps earned answer XP but not the finish bonus.
  • Profile display: your level appears on your Trainer Profile as a coloured number badge. Different level ranges use different colours.
  • Trainer Titles: rare, historical, event and special accomplishments can unlock titles you can equip above your trainer name. Hover over or focus an equipped title to read about it. On your own Profile, select the title area to change your equipped title.
Achievements

Achievements recognise milestones across PokeHiLo's games, Dailies, cosmetics and Mini Companions.

  • Gameplay milestones: earn achievements through Higher or Lower streaks and Trivia streaks, correct answers, completed runs and Trivia runs without lifelines.
  • Other milestones: discover Pokémon, complete Dailies, collect cosmetics and progress with Mini Companions.
  • Track progress: open Profile → Achievements to see what you have unlocked and what comes next.
  • Favorites: showcase up to three unlocked achievements on your public Trainer Profile.

Created by Mounaros. PokeHiLo is an unofficial Pokémon fan project and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Nintendo, Game Freak, Creatures, The Pokémon Company, or PokéAPI.

Privacy & accounts

We store your chosen username, a salted password hash for registered accounts, essential session cookies, and game history. We do not request email addresses or use advertising or analytics trackers. Leaderboard names and scores are public, and registered usernames cannot be used in guest mode. There is no email-based password recovery; contact the site owner for a password reset or account deletion. Avoid personal information in your public trainer name.

Pokémon content & credits

Game data and artwork come from PokéAPI. PokeHiLo caches PokéAPI artwork on its server, so your browser does not contact the PokéAPI image host, and the game database stays on this website's server. Profile icons and backgrounds also include imagery from official Pokémon anime and movies. Mini Companion Ribbon art is referenced from Serebii.net and served locally. Pokémon names, characters, trademarks, artwork, and game soundtracks belong to their respective rights holders, including Nintendo, Game Freak, Creatures, The Pokémon Company, composers, and other creators. PokeHiLo claims no ownership of these third-party assets.

Interface icon credits

Some achievement icons and other interface icons used throughout PokeHiLo are adapted from Game-icons.net artwork by Lorc, Delapouite, and sbed, licensed under CC BY 3.0. These icons have been recolored or adapted for the site; some other icons are original PokeHiLo artwork.

Fair play

Answers and scores are checked on the server, but Pokémon facts are public knowledge, so these checks cannot prevent outside lookups or every form of automation. Administrators may remove suspicious runs.
